Lithuania is the heart of the Baltic States. With its beautiful nature, friendly people and good food, real Europe lovers should definitely visit this country.
Once the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was one of the largest states in Europe and the Grand Princes ruled over millions of subjects. Today, with a population of just under 3 million, the country is somewhat less influential, but is still considered one of the model states of the region. The Lithuanians were very freedom-loving and with their persistent protests had a large share in the collapse and end of the Soviet Union and the communist rule in Europe.
As the southernmost country of the Baltic States, many Latvia and Estonia travelers also visit Lithuania on the way. Tourists are always surprised by the beautiful old towns of Klaipeda, Kaunas and the capital Vilnius. The alleys invite to stroll and in the Republic of Užupis cats and dogs are equal to humans according to the constitution. The castle in nearby Trakai with its thick brick walls, on the other hand, is one of the country’s landmarks.
The Curonian Spit with its huge sand dune and small fishermen’s houses attracts crowds of tourists every summer. But the other places on the Baltic coast also have their charm and maritime flair.
In the north of the country, in addition to the Mountain of Crosses, there are pristine national parks with many lakes that invite visitors to swim and hike.
The east of the country also offers many lakes and small rivers that are best explored during canoe tours. With the Ignalina nuclear power plant, Lithuania even has the original filming location of the HBO series Chernobyl to offer, because the power plant is identical in construction to the disaster reactor in Ukraine.
Kaunas is also an insider tip, as the city is mostly in the shadow of Vilnius, but still has its charme. Especially the confluence of the rivers Nemunas and Neris make the city a place worth seeing.
Besides all the well-known sights, however, Lithuania has much more to offer. Reason enough to discover the country with us!
Vilnius is not only the capital of Lithuania, but also one of the most beautiful cities of the Baltic States. A beautiful old town and natural surroundings fascinate visitors.

Žemaitija offers not only splendid nature parks, lonely lakes and unique wooden art. Every year thousands visit the Hill of Crosses, which is a symbol of the oppression by the Soviets.
